TESC-S4U ratifies new contract

The contract for The Evergreen State College Student Support Services Staff Union (TESC S4U) has been unanimously ratified after the close of voting June 14.

The vote was extended beyond the original deadline of June 6 because of public safety concerns that led to the closure of campus for several days during the original voting period.

Because of that, some campus-located contract information activities had to be cancelled. Because of those extraordinary circumstances the ratification vote was extended.

The TESC S4U Bargaining Team included bargaining unit members Edwin Bliss and Ann Carpenter, and WFSE/AFSCME Labor Advocates Ron Heley and Sherri-Ann Burke.

The 2017-2019 TESC S4U contract includes an improved compensation package totaling 6 percent over two years (2 percent on July 1, 2017, 2 percent on July 1, 2018, and 2 percent on Jan. 1, 2019). It also includes a $200 lump sum payment.

It also includes improved language on seniority, extends vacation leave by eight hours and holds the line on health care costs. Plus there are notable improvements to non-economic articles.

They negotiate under a different collective bargaining law so have a different timeline than most of the other WFSE/AFSCME contracts now part of the contentious funding debate in the Legislature.
